GREENWOOD - The City of Greenwood has announced the Final Draft of its 30-year Comprehensive Plan. The plan, which was prepared by Johnstone & Associates of Hernando, includes goals and objectives, recommendations for policy changes, new projects, and ideas for better enforcement of existing ordinances. The recommendations cover future land use, housing, transportation, design, code enforcement, capital improvements, community health, and environmental concerns, among a host of others.
The plan was a year in the making and included input from a 17-member Steering Committee, as well as from the community at large through a variety of means, including two citywide public forums in November 2009 and May 2010. The plan, which is available on the City's Web site at www.cityofgreenwood.org/plan, is intended to generate feedback from the community, all of which will be taken into consideration once the plan is introduced to the Greenwood City Council for adoption by resolution.
The Mississippi Code of 1972, Annotated requires that municipalities adopt and regularly update a comprehensive plan as a means to enforce its zoning ordinance. This is the first comprehensive planning activity to be undertaken by the City of Greenwood in over 30 years.
